Black PEI

Polyetherimide (PEI) is a type of polymer formed by introducing ether bonds on the PI chain. Compared to other aromatic PIs, PEI is a cost-effective and high-yield thermoplastic PI. From the perspective of comprehensive performance and cost-effectiveness, it is the most successful product in PI modification research. PEI is a non crystalline polymer with mechanical properties, long-term heat resistance, dimensional stability, and chemical stability similar to other PI and aromatic heterocyclic polymers at room and high temperatures. However, its excellent molding and processing properties cannot be compared to the latter. It has a low melt viscosity and good flowability similar to polycarbonate, and can be manufactured using typical thermoplastic melt processing techniques and equipment. It also has outstanding flame retardant properties and low smoke emission rate, and is highly competitive with high-performance thermoplastic polymers such as polyether sulfone and polyphenylene sulfide in the market.
  • Detailed Description

Characteristic

Hydrolytic stability: PEI finished products can still maintain good tensile strength after soaking in 120 degree water for 1000 hours, and their physical and mechanical properties will not be changed by repeated steam pressure and vacuum drying.

Weather resistance stability:
PEI does not require the addition of UV stabilizers and can withstand wind and sun exposure outdoors, with almost no change in its performance. Especially after 1000 hours of xenon lamp irradiation, its tensile strength changes very little. This performance indicates that PEI is particularly suitable for use as a rear reflector for car headlights.
Excellent radiation resistance, compared to general plastic materials, it has an irreplaceable position.

PEI thermal and flame retardant properties: PEI can be used for a long time at a temperature of 170 degrees Celsius, with a deformation temperature of 200 degrees Celsius. PEI is heat-resistant in polyimide plastics, but its components have excellent dimensional stability and precision, and a small shrinkage rate. This performance is not much different from that of metals. PEI has outstanding flame retardancy, achieving UL94V-0 (0.016 inch) 5V (0.075 inch) flame retardancy without the need for any flame retardants

Several issues should be noted during PEI processing:
When cleaning the injection molding machine, HDPE can be used for cleaning, and then PC can be used for cleaning. If the processed products are found to be unqualified after cleaning, 40% fiber-reinforced PC can be used for cleaning 4 to 5 times again, and then HDPE can be used for cleaning the fiberglass.

Application Area
Due to its excellent heat resistance, weather resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and high rigidity; Widely used in the aviation industry, transportation, luggage racks, and seats in daily life. Catering tables, etc; The structural strength and dimensional stability of PEI at high temperatures, as well as its constant electrical performance over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies, make it the preferred material for the electronics and electrical industry. Such as manufacturing terminal posts, relay housings, switches, circuit boards, coil skeletons, printed circuit boards, integrated circuit bases, connectors, reflectors, fiber optic connectors, etc; PEI's toughness, high temperature resistance, and steam sterilization resistance (4000 cycles of 130 degree steam sterilization) are applied to the handles, trays, fixtures, reflectors, and dental appliances of medical surgical instruments; PEI is non-toxic, odorless, non migratory, heat-resistant, and disinfectable The FDA authorities have determined that it can be used for food industry machinery components, product packaging, toasters, microwave ovens, tableware, and more.
